Got my Wacissa ride this morning — Juancho showed up with his new commuter bike at 8:30 A.M., ready for any and all disasters. He’d done the math, figured all the angles (showed up with a tool chest strapped to his back and a registered nurse to follow on a moped), and his best guess was we wouldn’t be back until about 4:00 this afternoon.
Well, I pulled his ass the 21 miles to the springs in just a little over an hour, we had a swim (at the very spot captured in this picture), ate a bag of boiled peanuts, toured the greater Wacissa metropolis, sat in front of the Wacissa General store and drank 8 ounce cokes, stopped by a friend’s house on the way home for another swim, and 50 miles later we were back at my house in my pool around 1:00. It was pretty much ALL good.
I’m hoping the next spring ride will be Ichetucknee, just a little more than 100 miles away. Stay in High Springs for the night and back the next day. Do people ride centuries in Florida in the summer? If you’re reading this and you know of folks who do, please testify here, and leave out any stories featuring dehydration or redneck road rage. I don’t want a sharpshooter following me all the way to Ichetucknee on a moped.
And the pink polka dot jersey goes to…Me! And not just because I look so cute in it either.
